Launch Out

Many of us have been sitting on the banks of life, but God desires we thrust out a little further into the deep. We all can fish from the bank, but if you want to receive a great payload, you must go out into the deep.
We all can catch the Lord form the bank, but if you want to receive the fullness of the Lord you must launch out into the deep.

Be Open to Correction

“They did not respond to correction.”         Jeremiah 2:30 NIV

How do you respond to correction? Do you get offended when someone corrects you? Do you take the correction rendered to you as a form of rejection? Do you take a defensive stance when you are corrected? Do you shoot the bearer of correction by making sure he/she never say anything that corrects your behavior again? Do you possibly keep score against a person by making statements like, “In comparison to what I’ve accomplished in life, you have done nothing”, or do you give in to self pity and make others believe your life is so hard because others do not appreciate you or understand you?

Well, the truth of the matter is this…WE NEED PEOPLE TO BE HONEST WITH US AND TELL US THE TRUTH ABOUT OURSELVES!!!! Now I have that off my chest, let me explain. Our egos will blind us on a continual basis because our egos deal with “I” or self. When the Lord sends correction our way it is because He wants what is best for you and HE desires to get your focus shifted away from “self.” His willingness to correct you actually demonstrates how much He care about you and love you. “If you are not disciplined…you are illegitimate children and not true sons” (Hebrews 12:8 NIV). So check your spiritual birth certificate.

People who are open to correction generally exhibit these four qualities:

  1.  Vulnerability. When they’re wrong they’re capable of admitting it-even before they’re confronted.
  2.  Teachability. They’re willing to hear, quick to learn, and always open to counsel.
  3.  Availability. They don’t try to avoid you.
  4.  Honesty. They are committed to the truth regardless of how much it hurts.

You may say this is a high standard; you’re right! It’s a standard all those who possess pride within their heart’s will resist and the fragile egoist will run from. There is something in each of us that would rather look good than be good. So when God sends people into your life who love you enough to tell you the truth and level with you – be open and honest with them. Your personal growth and success depends on it.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.    James 4:5-10

The Word for You Today: January 27, 2015

Whomever you yield…

forbiddenThere was a movie back in the 80’s about a young girl who lived in the ocean who was fascinated with life above the water. This young girl also took a specific interest in a young man who was a prince. Now there was a seagull giving this young girl information that was incorrect about the life above the sea. See, the young girl is like most of us today, dissatisfied with what we have, and hoping for greener grass on the other side of the fence, and we will listen to others that will lure us in the wrong direction. Her father instructed her concerning the dangers of people who live above the water, and she was to have no contact with the land dwellers. This young girl can be a representation of us because we receive warning after warning concerning the dangers of dealing with people who do not share the same beliefs as we do, and yet we continue to go pass the barrier of safety and go after what we are not to have. 2 Corinthians 6:14

Now I will skip along to the main part I am desiring to focus on…yielding. Romans 6:16 says, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” This young lady was so focused on being with the young prince until she yielded herself to the sea witch that was banned by the king of the sea. The sea witch made a deal with the young girl, to turn her into a human for three days in exchange for her voice. In order for her to stay a human she must receive “true love’s kiss.”deal-with-the-devil

What the girl did not know, just like some of us, the sea witch would use the gift against her. The young prince fell in love with the young girls voice because she saved him from drowning and sang to him before he came to himself. The sea witch knew this and saw this as another opportunity to enslave others that were in the kingdom, and to take a jab at the king. What we fail to see is each time we yield ourselves over to the devil, we become his servant. The young girl was the sea witch’s servant because she gave up her gift in order to have something she was banned from. The devil has been banned to the chains of hell by the KING of Kings, and yet we still yield ourselves to satan’s devices.

giftThe gift (the young girl’s voice) is what caused the young man to fall in love. It wasn’t the girl that he loved because he had never saw her, but it was the gift of her voice. The devil is coming after the gift that God has placed in each and every one of us. The gifts are without repentance, but when we yield ourselves over to the devil, we give him permission to use our gifts against us. The sea witch used the young girl’s gift against her because she surrendered it over to the sea witch in order to be a human for three days, and the sea witch used the young girl’s voice to hypnotize the young man into loving her instead of the young girl.

The deal falls through and the young girl does not get the kiss she so longed for. The king goes and vows for his daughter, but the sea witch reminds the king the deal is solid between her and his daughter. The king chooses to give up his authority in order to save his daughter. Doesn’t this sound familiar? God gave His Son to take our place even though we made a deal with the devil through the sin of Adam.stop-self-sabotage-behaviour

With the sea witch thinking she has full control over the kingdom, and using the kings power, she attempts to triumph over everyone, but it was short lived, and she was destroyed. The king receives his authority back, and all of those that were once enslaved by the sea witch are now free. Jesus has destroyed the workings of satan from all of our lives, and HE has set all of us free from the bondage of sin and death.

Our Heavenly Father loves each of us in a very special way. The chastisement that we receive is for our benefit, and never for our hurt. When the young girl was chastised earlier in the movie, she was offended and hurt behind it, and it caused her to make a deal that was destined to ruin her life forever. We must be careful to handle correction properly because it is in that time of correction that our character is tested.

12_jesus-breaks-chainsI know I talked more about the movie than scripture, but Jesus talked In parables to give people a meaning to spiritual things. This movie was used because so many of us have yielded ourselves over to the workings of darkness for a temporary relief from some sort of offense we have suffered, or because of a particular lust we wanted fulfilled. My brothers and my sisters, please be careful with the gift the Lord has blessed you with, and always strive to yield and submit yourself to the Lord, so HE can exalt you in due season.

The Love of Correction

The Love of Correction

Read Hebrews 12:5-11, John 15:1-2, and Revelation 3:19

images1X3D46V0   The Golden Pathos are some of the easiest plants to take care of, so I heard. I was never born with a green thumb, so taking care of a plant, no matter how easy the maintenance, was never my strong suite. One night while teaching a Bible Study lesson about correction, the Lord gave me an example about a plant.

I had a plant that looked sadder than the eyes of a Basset Hound. The leaves were brown and dried out. The stems were yellow, and the dirt was dry. I didn’t water the plant properly, and when I would give it a little sun light, I would leave it outside too long, and the leaves would burn. I wasted time and money killing plants because I wouldn’t take the time to care for them properly.dead plant with dry leaves closeup isolated on white

Our lives are like a plant. We have to be tended to properly by receiving the proper amount of sunlight (Jesus), water (the word of God), and tilling of the dirt from time to time (repentance). Tending to a plant properly is a form of correction or chastening which is a process of tilling the ground. Our ground has to be tilled so the water can enter into our heart, instead of sitting on the topsoil, and drying up.

Once the ground of our heart is broken up, the Lord can drop seeds into us that will bring forth fruits of righteousness. One of the definitions for chasten is to purify. This means to clear from material defilement or imperfection. I learned in Agriculture, that in order for a plant to grow properly, it has to be pruned because the pruning process removes damaged or old foliage from a plant in order to strengthen it. Like a plant, we also have to allow the Lord to remove areas from our lives that have been damaged by sin, shame, hurt, embarrassment, abuse, neglect, rejection, and many other situations that has caused us to be wounded.5810375351_7b69594107_z

The Lord has to do away with the old things in our lives in order for us to receive the new wine. Now the pruning (chastening) seems like it take place in our lives when everything is working like a dried up axle (nothing is working for us at all), but I learned that the best time to prune a plant is in the winter season when the plant is dormant.

Dormant is a good stage of the plants life because it is not active but is able to become active. It seems like the Lord has forgotten you during this time, and everything has hit you, even the kitchen sink, but the Lord is preparing you for kingdom activity. The trials that help us to be pruned is the manure (fertilizer) that is being planted in your soil to help you grow.

planting

The fertilizer is part of the repotting process. A plant has to be fertilized after pruning. Once the plant is fertilized, it has to be placed in a different position out of direct sunlight until it is able to recover from the pruning process. Once the plant has recovered from pruning and fertilization (and you identify this process by seeing more foliage beginning to grow in a rapid pace) you place the plant back in its original position.

Now the plant is strong enough to bring forth fruit. Each trial is strategically placed by our Heavenly Father because He desires to see much fruit in our lives. We cannot stay dry, dead, damaged, or diseased because plants that stay this way attract insects that will help destroy the plant even the more. Embrace the chastening of the Lord because, “no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Hebrews 12:11 Prayer: Lord, help me to receive your correction, so that you can bring forth more fruit in my life. I desire to abide in you because I am a branch that cannot bear fruit by my own strength. It may hurt my flesh to be chastened by you Lord, but I yield my spirit to the hand of my potter, and the Bishop of my soul. I receive your correction Lord for my life In Jesus Name, Amen.
