The Importance of Following Instructions

I have always wondered what happened to teaching and structure in the body of Christ. Proverbs 10:17 says, “He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth repoof erreth.” This lets me know why so many people are erring in the body of Christ. For instance; I can recall some years ago where I was attending a church where the pastor gave the ministers of the house 10 minutes to deliver a message. There were some who finished within that time, but there was one particular minister who went past his time. I can still hear him saying, “That 10 minutes were not enough time for him and the Lord had more to say,” and he proceeded to go past his time which was allotted to him. Now when I heard that I thought, “Surely this guy has bumped his head and clearly can’t follow instructions.”

This young man had clearly moved into a place of error because he superseded the instructions of his leader. Hebrews 13:17 tells us to obey those that have the rule over us. 1 Corinthians 4:2 says, “it is required…that a man be found faithful.” The way we serve and obey our leader determines how our ministry will be established. These small steps of instructions given to us by our leader, is God’s way of testing and proving us to see if we can follow him in the little things. God wants to know when the anointing stops, are we going to stop, or are going to keep operating in self? I dislike nothing more than a preacher who constantly talks and is still operating after the anointing has left the building. A person who supersedes the instructions of their leader and the holy spirit, has no control and is operating in self.

Matthew 10:24 says, “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.” In a movie I watched , there was a disciple who thought he was greater than his teacher. He felt this way because of constant reminders of being the chosen one, and he was different than any other student who received this particular training. He was very talented and skilled, yet he displayed great impatience, an inability to follow instructions, doubt, hurt, fear, anger, and many other emotional and prideful barriers. He broke commands and instructions on a regular basis and allowed his pride and ambitions to overrule what he knew was right. Because of his desire to be greater than his teacher, he erred tremendously and lost those dearest to him.

When our leader (either they are good or bad) give simple instructions for us to follow, we should do it. As long as the instructions are not against the Word of God, we should follow what is given. The greatest accomplish of being a leader is being an exceptional follower. The Lord desires that we walk in the ways of life, and be found faithful because he wants to establish us into our own work for him, but we can’t get it doing things our way.

David never attacked Saul and God raised him up. Samuel respected Eli and he began the school of the prophets. Hagar, Sarai’s made, was made to submit to Sarai (by the Lord) after harsh treatment. So, you see, your instructions and treatment has nothing to do with you personally, but it deals with the person on the inside.

Remember, Proverbs 15:32-33, “He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.”

BE BLESSED!

Don’t Touch Your Commander!

Psalm 105:13-15 “When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.Dot_not_touch

When I was in the military we had a rank structure that was necessary for order, and a particular level of responsibility. Each person had to understand their rank and position because anytime someone thought they were above what their actual pay grade was, you stood a chance at being locked up (meaning put at the position of attention and not being able to say anything because the hammer is getting ready to be laid on you). This rank structure (for example purposes) went from an E-1 to an E-4. Individuals that carried this rank were fresh in basic training. Though some people came in with a little rank like E-2, E-3, or E-4, you still had to go through basic training. That rank in basic only meant you received some formal training (like higher education or JROTC), but you still needed to be broken.

The same thing goes for the body of Christ. There is a structure that takes place in the body. We all have a commander in chief, and He is Jesus Christ. Now, in the military we have generals that are close to the commander in chief, and they receive information about things that most soldiers would never know about. But, I will take this to a different level in the military.

Each unit has a company, and that company has a company commander. For explanatory purposes I will say the company commander is the pastor. The company commander is responsible for all tasks and missions assigned to that particular unit. Each pastor has been given a small piece of the Heavenly Kingdom’s vision, and it is that commander’s (pastor’s) responsibility to do all that he/she can to see that the mission is complete.

Whenever we conducted DNC (or drill and ceremony) as a company, the company commander would give us a command which is normally in two parts. The first part is the preparatory command which informs us of the movement that is to be carried out, and prepares us mentally for the action that we are getting ready to take.

The command of execution lets us know when to do it, and what it is we are doing. For instance, if the commander says “FORWARD!” that word is repeated all the way down to the platoon leader which states that all of those in leadership have heard what the commander (pastor) is preparing us for, and that they repeat it to their members. The command “MARCH!” is what the commander wants us to do, and no one repeats that because the commander is the only one that can execute anything in this formation unless he/she has delegated another authority head to do so in their absence.

The same thing goes for the body of Christ. We have commanders (pastors as I stated earlier) that have the authority to prepare and execute their particular assignment, as their orders are given to them. As platoon leaders and squad leaders, our jurisdiction is limited to the area that we have been assigned to. Platoon leaders are like ministers in the body that help assist the commander in the menial things that go on in a soldier’s life. The platoon leader (minister) helps with making sure the vision of the company is well understood by those who are growing in their knowledge of the mission, and the purpose of being a soldier.

The thing that hurt so many churches (companies) is that the young soldier (private) wants to challenge what the commander is doing when the commander has the authority to strip an individual of his/her rank, give them punishment for challenging the commander’s authority, or can even be recommended to be released from the military with a dishonorable discharge.

Sometimes in Drill and Ceremony procedures, the commander may give the wrong order. Now if the commander does not correct the preparatory command with “AS YOU WERE!” you have to follow that particular command of execution, and fix it the best way you can after that order is released. It is not our job to holler out in formation that the commander has given the incorrect order because that is making the commander look bad. Our job is to follow orders and trust that our commander is going to get us out of that jam.Feb27Story18mc

All of these things happen on a regular basis in the body of Christ. So many members in the body are always challenging authority and think that they are not supposed to be punished. In the beginning of this text, I opened up with Psalm 105:13-15. This scripture is letting us know that it is wrong to speak against and challenge those whom the Lord has appointed and anointed to do His Will (Hebrews 13:7,17).

When a soldier fought against everything that went on in the military, you were looked over for promotions, schooling, and special assignments. The commander did not care how great you were in your knowledge of your job, or how you excelled in your physical activities. You were a hard head that was non submissive, couldn’t follow orders, and a rebel. These types of soldiers were poisonous to the mission of the unit, and had to be dealt with.ucmj

Blessings flow down from the one that has the executive authority to point our lives in the direction of the mission for our life, and for the mission of the unit we are in. Soldiers come from all walks of life, and it is the commander’s job to make sure that his/her leaders are echoing the preparatory commands that he/she is getting ready to execute for the company. The commander doesn’t always have the choice on who is assigned to the unit. The department of defense makes that call according to the need of that unit’s mission. The same goes for the body of Christ. The pastor does not always have a say in who is assigned to their unit because the Lord adds to the church, not man. But the pastor can recommend a soldier get removed if his/her behavior is detrimental to the mission of that unit.

  • People like Korah, Dathan and Abiram in Numbers 16 challenged God’s authority and was dealt with.
  • Aaron and Miriam in Numbers 12 challenged God, and Miriam was dealt with.

Quotes concerning those who challenged or mocked God

The man who built the Titanic

After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be.

With an ironic tone he said: “Not even God can sink it”

The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

Marilyn Monroe (Actress)

She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show.

He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.

After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:

“I don’t need your Jesus”.

A week later, she was found dead in her apartment .

John Lennon (Singer):

Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said:

“Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, Today we are more famous than Him” (1966).

Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

Campinas (IN 2005)

In Campinas, Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend,

The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the car:

“My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You, “

She responded: “Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, Cause Inside Here, It’s Already Full.”

Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact.

The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken .

So the next time a person thinks that he/she can walk into the governor’s office and set him/her straight and not go to jail; you have another thing coming.

If you think that you can walk into the president’s office, and not get dealt with; think again.

Now these are just mortal men and women, so what more do you think will happen to a person that challenges the hand of God on a person’s life, and think nothing will happen?

Credit Score

An interesting topic came up one night while I was attending bible study, and it really caused me to ponder. When the Lord tells us to go out and make a major purchase, are we concerned about our credit report, and how much money we have or do not have in the bank? Usually when the Lord speaks to my spirit about something, I will begin to mention to the Lord about how I can’t afford it, and how the banks / loan company will check my credit score, or that I do not have the money saved for that, and blah, blah, blah. All of these things the Lord is aware of, but HE is testing our trust and faith in HIM. We can quote “a cattle on a thousand hills belong to our God.” “Whatever we ask in HIS name, we shall receive.” “He has given us power to get wealth,” and all of these good scripture, but how firm do we hold fast to the word when we are put to the test?

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying to do anything that the Lord has not instructed you to do because HIS blessings make you rich, and does not add any sorrow. The blessings are only in what the Lord has spoken over your life, and what we have submitted ourselves to concerning HIS will for our lives. We are not in the business of tempting the Lord, so make sure that as you are walking by faith, that the lord is ordering your steps. What I am saying is that if the Lord said it, and you know it is HIS voice, then why do we allow the confinements of the world’s system, and our lack of belief to stop us!?

I know that we shouldn’t just jump out on a whim and do something, but if God said it, then honey get out there and do what the Lord has said because he has already touched the kings heart to give you everything that you need like he touched King Artaxerxes heart to give Nehemiah everything that he needed to do the work of the Lord.

So the question lies….Who’s report will you believe?
Experian, Equifax, TranUnion, or Christ?
